Carnegie Challenge Cup
University of Gloucestershire coach Ken Stone was happy with the draw for the Carnegie Challenge Cup that gave his side a bye through the Preliminary Round and a home tie against Co-Operative Rugby League Conference Scottish champions Edinburgh Eagles in Round One.
"I'm happy with a home draw against Edinburgh", he said. "They will have to travel a long way to play us and that may play a part in the result."
The game will take place on the weekend of 23/24 January and Stone thinks that the timing will benefit his team. "I'm pleased we got the bye. It would have been difficult to play on the first weekend in January and at least we will have a competitive game against Leeds Met Carnegie under our belts before we take on the Eagles.
"I'm confident we can put in a performance and get to the second round."
The draws for the Preliminary and First Rounds of the 2010 Carnegie Challenge Cup have been made at Leeds Metropolitan University by two of this year's cup winners, Lee Briers and Michael Monaghan of Warrington Wolves.
